The Courteeners Humbled at Morrissey Supports

As they prepare to hit the UK for a major tour in support of their second album, ‘Falcon’, the Courteeners’ singer Liam Fray (pictured centre) and drummer Michael Campbell (right) have spoken exclusively to Spinner about their gigs supporting Morrissey in the US last year.

The former Smiths singer is a huge idol of the Courteeners and the experience apparently proved to be a humbling experience for the band known for their confident swagger.

“To have somebody that you hold in such high regard and say nice things about your band is a really nice, humbling feeling,” Fray said.

“And for us to go to America with him is kinda good because America is a notoriously difficult place to get anybody listening to you,” explained the singer.

The band spoke to Spinner as they filmed a live session for AOL UK, which can be seen here.

“Y’know, they love him over there and for him to say, ‘These are good’ and say nice things is a buzz,” he continued.

“But to go on tour with him .. .for us to share his vegetarian food with him and his catering with him, it’s good.”

Drummer Michael Campbell added: “He was a normal gentleman who was really complimentary to us and really humble. And he bought his own beer to the dressing room!”

MOZ at Hard Rock Cafe

Posted in Collection, The Smiths, memorabilia, pictures, xfranklyx, xsuedeheadx at 12:10 pm by xfranklyx

While visiting my friend at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando FL, I checked out the newish interactive wall ( imagine a giant ipod touch ) where you can get info on the memorabilia that the hard rock has in their restaurants and in their huge warehouse.

The first item that popped up was this blue mesh shirt that moz wore in the 1990s. Unfort, it didn’t give an exact date, location or anything. Presently the shirt is in the warehouse, which I hope to be able to visit this spring and get real pictures of it, the next time I’m in FL.

This other item is a James Dean postcard that Moz wrote on september 11, 1980 to a fellow name john, that was working on a new york dolls book.
The note says:
“Dear John-
Please call me at this number- 881-7125 when you’ve done the Dolls cover/ or if you need my expert advice on anything.
I HOPE YOU HAVEN’T CHANGED YOUR MIND.
Don’t smoke too much-
Steven
(Morrissey)”

Next to his signature he put a smiley face, above James Dean’s head he put what looks like a cross.
The way he signed “morrissey” it looks like he made the “M” of his name to be like the “N” of the new york dolls logo or it could be the other of the parentheses. I don’t know. I personally would like to imagine that he made it to be like the “N” from the dolls logo.

I’m sorry but I don’t remember where the letter is at the moment but I can find out if you really need to know.

Also, while at the Hard Rock Cafe, they played two Smiths videos, Ask & Girlfriend In A Coma.
They also have a couple vegetarian/vegan options so don’t be afraid to ask if you don’t see it on the menu.

Hard Rock LIVE which is next door to the cafe, is where moz has played before and was supposed to play on this last tour.

The day of the cancelled show we decided to go to Universal Studios (right next to Hard Rock) so it wouldn’t be a total wasted trip to FL. I was standing outside the venue to get my refund and How Soon Is Now came on outside the venue and cafe!
